Requirements

Previous experience in rank on Container vessels
Valid Chief Mate’s License or Certificate of Competency (COC)
Completion of relevant STCW trainings
Good health and physical fitness
Proficient in navigation, including the use of electronic navigation systems, radar, and other relevant equipment
Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively coordinate with the ship’s crew, terminal operators, and authorities
Updated on international maritime regulations, industry best practices, and company policies

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for navigation and safe watchkeeping, ensuring the vessel follows a safe course, avoids collisions, and complies with navigational regulations.
Oversee the loading, stowage, and discharge of containers, ensuring proper weight distribution and adherence to safety protocols.
Manage the bridge team, coordinating activities during navigation, port approaches, and special operations.
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures, conducting regular safety drills, and participating in emergency response activities.
Maintain accurate records of navigation, cargo operations, and safety-related activities.
Collaborate with the Master to plan efficient and safe voyages, considering weather conditions, navigational hazards, and fuel consumption.
Liaise with port authorities, terminal operators, and other vessels, ensuring effective communication and compliance with port procedures.
Supervise deck maintenance, including painting, inspection, and repair of deck equipment.
Implement security measures and protocols to ensure the safety and security of the vessel and its crew.
Contribute to the training and development of junior officers and deck ratings.
